Yoga Blocks

Yoga blocks are one of many types of supplies to aid in the practice of yoga.

Yoga is an incredible tool for self-improvement, both physically and mentally. It relieves stress, builds strength and stamina and helps with mental clarity. There are numerous types of yoga suitable for beginner level students all the way through advanced. As you advance in your yoga, you may at first find it difficult to master some of the more challenging asanas (postures). Yoga blocks are especially helpful for this.

Yoga blocks come in a variety of types – designs and sizes. They provide physical support for various parts of the body. Certain yoga movements or extensions may be particularly difficult at first. Finding the right size or type of yoga block allows a gradual learning curve that helps students participate fully, reaping all the benefits of a complete workout, and building more advanced yoga mastery simultaneously.

Yoga blocks can be used in any number of ways. They can be placed under any limb in need of extra support or used as an aid to maintaining balance. They can be used between the hands, under the hands, between the heels, under the hips or anywhere else a student needs that extra bit of support.

It’s important to look for yoga blocks that are durable so they withstand the rigors of repeated classes/workouts. They should be scratch resistant so the surface remains intact and strong. Also, yoga blocks should be lightweight whenever possible. This allows for easy transportation to and from class as well as improving ease of handling during class.

Yoga blocks also come in natural materials such as cork. Besides coming in different sizes and types, yoga blocks come in a variety of colors and patterns. They’re a great way of throwing a little personal expression and fun into your yoga routine. By allowing you to modify poses, yoga blocks help you to continue moving forward while continuing to learn.

Yoga is an art of growth. Its focus is always towards further improvement, control or enlightenment. While on that journey, it’s sometimes tough to master all the asanas at one time. Yoga blocks provide that extra bit of strength and support you need to successfully achieve newer or more challenging moves without risk of muscle strain or injury. The goal is to learn to do the postures correctly, by using your own strength and control. However, using yoga blocks during the learning curve is perfectly acceptable.

Yoga blocks are a great enhancement to yoga learning. I encourage you to investigate them further as your workouts become more challenging.
